દેશ ત્રાસવાદ સામેની લડાઇ લડી રહ્યો છે ત્યારે ત્રાસવાદના આરોપ કોઇ રાજકીય પાર્ટીના નેતાઓ દ્વારા પ્રેસ કોન્ફરન્સ બોલાવીને તેમની કાર્યાલયમાંથી કરવાને બદલે દેશની સુરક્ષા કરતી તપાસ એજન્સીઓ દ્વારા કરાવવી જોઇએ તેવી માગ સાંસદ અહેમદ પટેલે કરી હતી. તેમણે ગૃહ મંત્રી રાજનાથસિંહને પત્ર લખીને એવી માગણી કરી હતી કે રાષ્ટ્રીય સુરક્ષાની બાબત ક્યારેય રાજકારણની કેદી હોઇ શકે નહીં.
રાજયસભાના સાંસદ અહમદ પટેલે દિપાવલી તથા નુતનવર્ષની શુભેચ્છા અાપી છે. તેમણે પોતાના શુભેચ્છા સંદેશમાં જણાવ્યું છે કે, અંધકારમાંથી ઉજાસ તરફ લઇ જતાં મહાપર્વ દીપાવલીની તમામ નાગરિકોને હું હાર્દિક શુભકામના પાઠવું છું. વિક્રમ સંવત 2074નું નુતનવર્ષ પ્રત્યેક નાગરિકના જીવનમાં સુખ, શાંતિ અને સમૃધ્ધિનો પ્રકાશ ફેલાવે તથા સૌ માટે આરોગ્યપ્રદ અને ફળદાયી નીવડે તેવી શુભેચ્છા પાઠવી હતી.
મંગળવારે રાજ્યસભાની ત્રણ બેઠકો માટે યોજાયેલી ચૂંટણીમાં હાઇ-વોલ્ટેજ ડ્રામા બાદ અહમદ પટેલનો વિજય થયો છે. 8 કલાકના વિલંબ બાદ રાત્રે 1.45 વાગે મત ગણતરી ફરી શરૂ થઇ હતી, જેમાં અહમદ પટેલની સામે કોંગ્રેસમાંથી બગાવત કરીને ભાજપમાં જોડાયેલા બળવંતસિંહ રાજપૂતનો 38 મતે પરાજય થયો છે, અહમદ પટેલને 44 મત મળ્યા છે.
કોંગ્રેસના ટોચના નેતાઓ અહેમદ પટેલ, અશોક ગેહલોત સહિતના નેતાઓએ રવિવારે ધાનેરા, ચંડીસર, રામસણ અને થરાની મુલાકાત લીધી હતી. આ સમયે અહેમદ પટેલે જણાવ્યું કે, કોંગ્રેસના આ ધારાસભ્યો સરકારના ડરથી તેમનો મત વિસ્તાર છોડીને જતા રહ્યા છે. પૂર સમયે તમામ ધારાસભ્યો પૂરપિડીતોની પડખે હતા.’
અહેમદ પટેલ મોટાભાગે દિલ્હીમાં રહે છે અથવા તો તેમના ગામ પીરામણમાં રહે છે. પીરામણ એ કોઈ અંતરિયાળ ગામ નથી, જ્યાં પહોંચવા માટે મુશ્કેલીઓ વેઠવી પડે.
